October 14, 2009 - It came down to the wire, but Preston
Street's Catch Luigi Contest has finally caught its
winner!
Kirsty O'Donnell Hammel had become something of a fugitive to the
staff at Marketing Breakthroughs since drawing her name in early
September. The contest's winner was to be awarded $5,000 in gift
certificates to businesses in Ottawa's Little Italy. Unfortunately,
Marketing Breakthroughs was unable to get in touch with her to
inform her of her win. Luigi could not catch her!
The team spent hours on the phone, on Facebook, and sending emails
trying to track down the woman who has sent in her photo submission
during this summer's Catch Luigi contest.
"It's such a great prize, it would be a shame if Ms. Hammel was
unable to claim it," said Lori Mellor, Executive Director of the
Preston Street Business Improvement Association. "We only have her
email address, and we're worried she isn't checking the
account."
After a couple weeks of waiting on Kirsty to get back to Marketing
Breakthroughs and the Preston Street BIA, the Marketing
Breakthroughs team began a city-wide awareness campaign to find
Kirsty.
Using all of Marketing Breakthroughs media contacts and expert
media relations' skills, MB was able to attract the much-needed
attention to find their winner.
On October 13, 2009, the
Ottawa Sun and
Centretown News each printed a story about the missing contest
winner.
By noon-hour on October 13th, countless leads came flooding into
the Preston BIA office as to Kirsty's whereabouts. Finally, after
more than a month of searching, Kirsty was finally found thanks to
the efforts of Marketing Breakthroughs media awareness campaign.
She was thrilled to find out about her win, and is very
appreciative that Marketing Breakthroughs went the extra mile to
track her down.
A little hard work and some expert media relations finally caught
the winner of the Catch Luigi contest. Great job MB team!
