After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Queen's University in Kingston, Mike moved back to his hometown of Ottawa to take his shot at a career in writing. He was led to joining the MB team by his interest and experience in Web 2.0 and New Media, web marketing, and copywriting.

During his years with Queen's Golden Words comedy newspaper, he worked as both a Staff Writer and Editor, gaining valuable experience in desktop publishing. Whether he's producing SEO web content, advertising copy, academic papers, or humour articles, Mike enjoys writing for a wide variety of audiences and media.

Despite what many say, Mike believes that the printed word is still as popular as ever. A voracious reader, Mike's favourite books include The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, and pretty much anything by David Sedaris. He regularly visits ConversationalReading.com for its discussions on books and print culture, and greatly enjoys Shouts and Murmurs, the humour section of The New Yorker.

When it comes to improving his own writing, Mike is a big fan of Stephen King's down-to-earth memoir, On Writing, and is a frequent visitor to CopyBlogger.com.

Mike considers the early seasons of The Simpsons to be the best satire he's ever seen, and doesn't disagree with those who regard Radiohead's OK Computer as perhaps the best music from the past 50 years. One of his favourite TV shows is Battlestar Galactica - though he says he has a hard time convincing people that it's more about the drama than the space battles and evil robots with the sinister red glowing eyes.
